Meet Erin: Our Talent Finder

Meet Erin!

Some opportunities slowly reveal themselves over time and after many conversations. Others pop up, feel totally meant to be, and you know you have to grab it. That’s what happened nearly 5 years ago when Erin visited Intero’s office for coffee, and a chat and Colleen said, “What if we started offering recruiting services. Would you want to work on that?”

With Erin’s background as an Executive Assistant, writer, and recruiter, her role at Intero has been a hybrid of client and profile support, talent sourcing and candidate engagement, and overall administrative and business support. In an environment where everyone is expected to contribute at a very high level, Erin relishes rolling up her sleeves and digging into any number of client and business needs.

Where is your hometown? Berlin, MD (right outside of Ocean City)

What are you currently working on at Intero Advisory? My time is split between managing our recruiting engagements, (where I work with organizations to fill their open positions, using LinkedIn Recruiter as the primary tool), and profile development. In profile development, I am usually working with professionals in transition. I try to tell their professional story in a way that will make others connect with them and want to learn more.

How would you explain your job to a child? I help people find jobs!

If you could redesign the food pyramid without any health restrictions, what would it look like?

  • Bottom: Salsa + chips
  • 2nd from bottom: Oysters
  • 3rd from bottom: Cheese + olives
  • 4th from bottom: Dark chocolate
  • Top: Pancakes

What are you known for? These days, I’m mostly known as “Maggie’s mom.” My 2-year-old daughter is quite a character and makes friends wherever she goes. At the library, at the farmer’s market, at the park, people are constantly coming up to me and saying, “Are you Maggie’s mom? I see her every week at [fill in the blank event] with her sitter. I just love her. She’s so funny.” My husband and I joke that she has an entirely separate part of her life that we know very little about.

What would your last meal be? Probably my stepdad’s homemade salsa and yellow corn tortilla chips. It’s my comfort food.

Or oysters from Prince Edward Island. The varieties that come out of that region are particularly briny and clean. They are such a treat!

If you won the lottery what would you do with your money? I would put an addition on our house, pay off our mortgage, and travel with my family. I have a bucket list of destinations that I’m dying to visit including Machu Picchu, Portugal (to eat and drink wine), Iceland (to see the northern lights) and Hawaii (to play in the surf with my daughter).

What is one thing you wish people understood about your job? The toughest thing about recruiting is aligning expectations. A hiring manager can create a list a mile long of what he or she wants, but that doesn’t mean that the person they’re describing actually exists. It’s really about understanding what you need to have in a candidate vs. what would be nice to have, should you be lucky enough to find the must-haves quickly and easily. It’s a lot like dating 🙂
